District 10

Tanglin, Holland, Bukit Timah

District 10 is where many of Singapore’s most affluent families live. The area is filled with exquisite residential estates surrounded by vast swaths of greenery where residents can enjoy nature reserves, modern recreational centres, and wide open parks. District 10 also has some wonderful restaurants serving mouth-watering dishes that attract crowds on a nightly basis, many of which are found in Holland Village.

Holland Village

Holland Village has become the centre of District 10 now that the Holland Village MRT Station has opened. Since it’s so much more accessible to everyone, locals, and expats alike, several communities surrounding Holland Village have come alive. These include the shophouses populating Holland Village proper, the Chip Bee Gardens with a variety of cafes and ice cream shops and a large HDB estate called Holland Close.

This is also where you will find an eclectic assortment of art galleries, craft stalls, novelty stores, gift shops, costume shops, ethnic home accessories and décor and tons of other fascinating shops. This is why Holland Village has become known as a Bohemian enclave. You can also find some wonderful fine dining restaurants and bars in Holland Village, like Marmalade Pantry, Tango’s Baden-Baden, Wala Wala, Tapas Wine Bistro and Harry’s Bar. Other popular Holland Village eateries are Crystal Jade, along with a great local start-up called Everything with Fires.

Tanglin Village

Another bustling area of District 10 is Tanglin Village, which is home to some well-known outdoor bars like PS Café. This attracts visitors who want to enjoy a night out eating tasty dishes and enjoying good entertainment. Aside from being popular with foodies, District 10 is where you can find quite a few of Singapore’s best educational institutions. For example, Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, Raffles Girls’ Primary School, Anglo-Chinese School on Barker Road, Nanyang Girls’ High School, National Junior College, St. Joseph’s Institution, and Hwa Chong Institution.

These schools have put the spotlight on District 10, increasing its popularity among affluent property buyers. They’ve also inspired developers of luxury homes to build in District 10. Tuan Sing Holdings launched Luxury Cluny Park Residences in 2014. This is a 52-unit freehold residential project with 2- to 4-bedroom flats priced from $2.3 million to $8 million.

Tanglin Road is another important part of District 10. The name comes from the home of William Napier, a prominent newspaper editor and attorney in the 1800s. Today, Tanglin Road has been redeveloped into an educational and lifestyle hub. You can see a series of colonial buildings alongside Minden Road that are now housing day care centres and dance studios.
