Bukit Batok

Young Bukit Batok Community Offers Families A Place To Grow As It Does

Bukit Batok is one of the newest communities in Singapore, thanks to the Bukit Batok Planning Area. It was the home of many industries such as Hume Industries and Ford Motor Works during the 1950s. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the area underwent a development transition that included new residences – apartments, condos, HDB estates and other residential units.

Since that time, Bukit Batok, which in Malay means hill (Bukit) and granite (Batu), became self-efficient with numerous shopping centers, industrial parks, clubhouses, and a nature park stadium. It’s become one of Singapore’s more sought out places to work and play.

Bukit Batok Residences, Education and Other Lifestyle Amenities

One of the most sought-after places to live is the Bukit Batok New Town region with its 3 to 4-room flats that is home to around 120,000 individuals. Bukit Batok is broken down into multiple sub-zones such as

  • Brickworks
  • Bukit Batok (Central, East, South and West)
  • Gombak
  • Guilin
  • Hillview

Many of these Housing Development Board flats are adjacent to coffee shops and stores, and more Build-To-Order flats are on the way. The area is a mix of both old and new condos, including The Jade, which is located behind West mall and adjacent to Bukit Batok MRT Station. The Guilin View, Hillview Regency and Natura @ Hillview condos are also worth checking out.

For people who need a bigger residence than a condo, there is the opportunity for a semi-detached or terrace house (and the chances for more of these types of development is high).

Parents have an opportunity to send their children to any of Bukit Batok’s available schools. There are four primary and secondary schools – Bukit View Primary School, Dazhong Primary School, Keming Primary School and Lianhua Primary School, Bukit Batok Secondary School, Bukit View Secondary School, Dunearn Secondary School and Swiss Cottage Secondary School.

The area is well-known for its modern landscape and picturesque beauty. However, it’s also a town bustling with entertainment, activities and amenities.

Food, Fun and Other Amenities

Bukit Batok has many places where people can check out and enjoy all amenities and facilities that fit the urban and upscale lifestyle. This is the part of Singapore that has everything that people would want and more. If shopping is what you’re after, you’ve got the West Mall, Bukit Batok West Shopping Center and the Bukit Batok Town Center.

Residents can take time out of the shopping or enjoy a date night at many of the restaurants offered in Bukit Batok, including the Pasta Mania, Swensen’s, Bali Thai Restaurant and Sakae Sushi. Shoppers can enjoy any of the fast food options in its food court, like the Thai Express at West Mall.

Bukit Batok offers cuisines beyond the fare of Singapore, such as Western culture food and Italian cuisines.

The region is home to an array of coffee shops, but some coffee shops are better than others. Therefore, ask around and find the one that’s best for you and your taste buds. As usual, the more people you see at a coffee shop, the more popular it is likely to be.

If you have a sweet tooth, there is the Beans & Cream along Bukit Batok Street 34. The best-selling ice cream there is the Mao Shan Wang ice cream, and they have delicious waffles too.

There is also plenty to do in Bukit Batok, such as a swimming complex, clubhouse, country club, family service center, community library, post office, nature park and town park.

A noteworthy feature of the region is Bukit Batok Hill in the Bukit Batok Nature Park. A trail leads up to the Hill, which was home to two World War II memorials. Another must-see venture is the nonoperational granite quarry Little Guilin Park.

This young Singapore town is increasing quickly and is bound to become a sought-after location for individuals and families before too much longer.

Since Bukit Batok is not even 20 years old, it falls into the category of a non-mature estate, which makes HDB resale flat prices less expensive, even though it offers residents plenty of amenities of the type you would find in a mature estate. For some people, the only downside to Bukit Batok is being in West Singapore, but with Jurong so close by with all the glitz and glamour of the “Orchard Road of the West,” people  have can easily find plenty of action nearby.
